Nadia Elena Comaneci
The 1976 Montreal Olympic Games was the time when she broke the record by becoming the first person to score a perfect 10 in asymmetric bars. In the following years, she was able to score another perfect 10 and became the youngest Olympic all-around gold medalist at just fourteen years of age. The Romanian gymnast did not only attract attention from everywhere, but she also helped Romania get its place in the world map. A sports legend came into the spotlight after securing an unprecedented result, making her a celebrity and promoting gymnastics as a game across all over the world. The perception of women athletes was also altered by her performances. The effect she had on Olympics was so great that her two routines including the toe-on as well as the release move were designated in honor of her. Both are rated as difficult to the highest level. Apart from the Olympics, she also showed impressive performance at both the World Championships & European Championships. This is how she became an iconic gymnast as well as one of the greatest athletes that the world has ever seen. Also, she modelled and promoted sporting gear following her moving into the US.
